Designed in a collaboration between artist Bev Milward and the SS Great Britain, these elegant milk jugs combine archival images from the Illustrated London News with beautiful hand painted copper lustre.
Inspired by the antique Victorian china used on board the ship, as well as the modern-day experience of visiting the SS Great Britain as a museum, these limited edition jugs offer something different and striking.
Bev has created these designs using images from both the SS Great Britain's archives and the ceramic archives at Stokes Croft China. Each piece has been hand decorated with ceramic transfers and copper lustre before firing. In addition, this particular jug design has hand-painted colour added to the images.
Bev is interested in the longevity and sentimentality of ceramics, how they infiltrate our lives and can be used as a tool for communication long after leaving the maker. This project combines history and long-lost artisan skills to create a product which feels both traditional and fresh at the same time.
Each of these jugs has been hand-painted before firing, therefore each is slightly different. We would recommend purchasing yours in person from our gift shop to enable you to choose your favourite.
*Please Note - due to the copper lustre, these jugs are not safe to use in a microwave*
