Each pair of these simple earrings has been turned by hand from the former deck wood of the SS Great Britain. The wood, removed during conservation work, formed the top deck of the ship from the 1990s until 2023.
These earrings come in a range of shapes and colour schemes, some of which may not be pictured. If ordering a 'colour' pair, colours can be requested in the order notes, although we may not be able to offer the exact colour and shape requested.
South Gloucestershire-based woodturner and carver Johannes Roux has a lifelong fascination with maritime history, so for him to work with wood from the ship's deck is a match made in heaven! Drawn to contrasts in texture, form and colour, he creates contemporary pieces that echo ancient design traditions.
For this range, Johannes has designed stunning household objects that preserve the original time-worn surface of the deck while revealing and celebrating the rich colour and grain of the underlying Jarrah wood.
