Covering the period from the last quarter of the 19th century to the outbreak of the Second World War, the photographs contained in this book take the reader on a fascinating and nostalgic journey.

Included are places that have since changed beyond all recognition; places that are still recognizable today, though now changed to a greater or lesser extent; forms of transport long since superseded and people at work, rest or play during an age when the local village photographer was most active in recording scenes of everyday life.

The photographs have been arranged so as to take the reader on a round trip from the outskirts of Bristol and Ashton, along the roads to Nailsea and Tickenham, across the moors and through Yatton and Congresbury to Wrington and then back along the main road from the outskirts of Weston-super-Mare to Flax Bourton.

Every second-hand book bought through our online shop helps contribute to the SS Great Britain's conservation and educational work. Thank you for supporting our charitable aims!
