A pack of 26 individual postcards, each sporting a letter from the delightful children's book ‘The Great Eastern ABC’, originally published in 1858 and still loved today. Brightly illustrated with period script, each one stands out in its own way.
There’s one postcard per letter featuring a rhyme, such as "B stands for Brunel, that famed Engineer, With whom, it is said, arose the idea”. All cards are enclosed in a smart case to protect and package them up nicely as a present.
When the SS Great Eastern was launched in 1858, souvenirs were sold to mark the occasion. At this time, Brunel was seen as a major celebrity and the launch of his ship in London was a massive event.
