World Travellers

Ships like the SS Great Britain opened the world up to more and more people. For the first time, ordinary people with little to no disposable income had the chance to travel. Many threw caution to the winds and went to seek their fortunes in unimaginably distant places.

The thrill of travelling can diminish quickly with the long, dull hours at sea. Steerage passengers played games, read books and wrote in their journals to pass the time.

Today, many people are rediscovering these old activities as a way to slow down and appreciate the world around them.
