This truly unique piece is inspired by the traditional Wardian cases used on board the SS Great Britain to transport plants across oceans. This was a new technology in the Victorian era, enabling horticulturalists to sell new and exotic plants in different countries. This smaller replica version can perform a similar function, acting as a cold frame to protect less hardy plants from the weather.

These cases are not only unique in their design, but in their material. Hand-crafted in Wiltshire, the case is made of Jarrah wood, removed from the ship's deck in 2024 as part of conservation work which only happens once every 50 years. Jarrah wood has an unusual rosy tone, making this case not only an object of fascination but also beautiful to look at.
